La Soufferance Est Salutaire
( 2006-05-28 @ 10:52 p.m. )
Ok, so FINALLY...I update.
Let's see, I went and saw "IT". I have also previously read "IT" twice......by it I mean the Da Vinci Code.
One of the most beautiful and engaging stories ever......so much passion and wonder rolled up into one little package. So of course, despite it being completley and utterly PANNED by critics...I had to go see the movie...on opening night. Besides, Ian was in it, not to mention Paul Bettany, not to mention Paul Bettany plays my absolute favorite character. The sado-machocistic, albino monk, Silas........whilst it sounds bizzare he is one of the most wonderfully complicated and beautiful characters I have had the pleasure to read about. I was instantly in love with him and how complicated yet simple he was..........so......I went.
And was glued to my SEAT for two and a half hours. Absolutley rivetted {and that had nothing to do with the albino monk's naked behind}
It was movie magic, on a level I havent seen since LOTR.........granted it was in a different way, but the passion and thrill was so clearly conveyed. What with Tom Hank's character Langdon having his faith shaken....and Silas skulking about and generally making a beautiful nuisance of himself. The film was lovely.........It was a wonderful thing, and yes, fiction or not....it causes you to think, and that in my opinion has NEVER been a bad thing.
No, it was beautiful, and I enjoyed it the first time. I went again last night, and enjoyed it as much the second time. I was able to pay far more attention to my beloved Silas........and yes, his naked behind. So much so that I actually made the most hilarious freudian slip as I was standing outside of the movie theater last night. Before I even went in, I was discussing Paul Bettany with a friend, and I somehow managed to say "Paul BUTTany" yes, that's right. I said it. I really said it, out loud......VERY LOUD mind you. So loudly I stopped people dead in their tracks. That was amusing...but it gets better.
My friend, who had attended her third showing told me over the computer "watch for the scene with Silas and the mirror." I had no idea what she was on about, but she repeated herself saying "Nearly naked albino monks isn't my thing, but I caught it when I went yesterday and thought you may want to know...."
So I watch....and watch.....no mirror.......
THEN IT HAPPENS......near the end, he's standing in front of this mirror and DAMN THE CINEMATOGRAPHER......you can see his hip bone, and then nothing else....but very close. So, being the loud Ivy I am I say VERY LOUDLY again.
"OMG! I almost saw Paul Buttany's ALMOST PENIS!"
Peopel were horrified, I of course was pleased with myself. Go figure. I then promptly came home and proceeded to call Jamie and tell her all about it. Many good laughs were had.
Seriously though, this movie causes you to think. Here we consider ourselves the superior race, superior to animals, plants.......etc. Yet instead of taking the compassionate route and as the stronger beings, taking care of what is weaker we keep destroying. We just continue to destroy and wreak havoc in general. You have to wonder if we really should be doing that. Should we not take care of all that we can? After all, we take care of our pets because they give us companionship in return, but think nothing of squahing a spider or a bug and so on. After all, what can they give us?
I think I just detest that attitude in general. It seems entirely callous.
And Silas, bless him, for seeming al the world like a cold-blooded creature there is so much compassion and confusion in the character. So much potential and beauty.........*sigh*
I have so much more to say about the movie but I shall once I digest it even more.
Also, anyone interested in working on a diary layout for me, PLEASE let me know, e-mail, note, g-book WHATEVER.........I do so appreciate it.
Love you all!
