Freedom
( 2004-06-16 @ 10:19 p.m. )

Whew, once again delayed in updating, just been one of THOSE weeks. Ugh.

I did however get my new Jack Sparrow shirts from Hot Topic, so that makes me happy, that's 5 POTC shirts I have now! Woot! Go me! I also got the new Harry Potter soundtrack which is excellent, and a whole hoard of Harry Potter candies stashed, ice mice, jelly slugs, Fizzing Whizbees, Acid Pops, Droobles Gum, and Bertie Bott's beans! YAY! Good stuff that, especialyl those ice mice! I also saw the movie again, I still liekd it.....ALOT but Draco, well he just WASN'T Draco. Now maybe that's me being biased because of the fic I write and all that but it seems like he just wasn't there enough, and when he was he was either getting hit and whining, or runninig away and whining, he gets hit by Hermione and runs off whining, gets attacked by invisible harry outside the shrieking shack and takes off whining, gets attacked by Buckbeak and gets carried off whining! I mean COME ON! Ugh, and then complete and utter lack of Quidditch, not....so.....good........I am a Quidditch junkie, you took away the house cup, and you took away Oliver Wood, this alone gives me reason enough to want to maul the new director's eyes out! It was obvious a different director did this film, alot of good choices were made, some of the shots and camera angles, even the lighting was brilliant. There were bad decisions to however liek what stayed and what went, characterization and such. All in all however I still liked it.....alot.

In light of the Harry Potter film, Kate and I have opened a Harry Potter role play board. It's pretty amazing actually, very few rules, no rating advisories, no "can do this" "can't do that" bullshit {minus the basic, common sense rules} and it's a arse-load of fun! Kudos go to J1 Beckers and Fruthy for joining up! We are having tons of fun, I even brought Ivy from the fic over there so by all means come check it out and join us, here be thy LINKIE! Tons of canon characters are left, as well as the fact that you can make originals, as a matter of fact the only canon characters defiitley taken are Oliver, Snape and Lupin I believe with possibilities for Mcgonnagal and Hermione and maybe a few others sooner or later but go have a look-see! Good fun!

What else? OH YES! Pirates in Paradise! ~Takes Deep Breath~ This sounds like absolute heaven! A HUGE, HUGE, MASSIVE Pirate Festival that takes place in none other than Florida, in Key West, all of a 6 to 8 hour drive from me depending on traffic and weather! Aieeeeeeeee! It runs from Nov 25th to Dec 5th but most of the activities take place from the last day of October to the 5th of December! Trust me, it's called Pirates in Paradise for a apt reason, that's basically what Key West is, wel and truly! On it's own with no festival taking place it's allready a tropical paradise with basically water so blue and clear it's transparent, sugar-white sand, and lack of locks in most places because no one in Key West cares what time it is for the most part. Wanna get drunk and pass out on the beach? It's cool, no one will bother you, just wanna pass out on the beach? Same preceeding principle applies! Sooooooooooo, from what I have heard, and drawing off my own conjecture, this Nov-Dec Key West is literally going to turn into Tortuga! Beautiful, HUGE, gorgeous replica pirate ships and sloops will be weighing anchor in the harbors, there will be much drunken carousing and singing, everyone will be in costume, staying in character, talking like pirates, walking liek pirates, dressing like them and acting like them. When I heard about it I nearly died, I intend with all my heart to be there, it's guaranteed I will be actually, in costume...well various costumes, I intend to dress as Captain Jack, full on Johnny Depp as best as I POSSIBLY can........AND NO ONE CAN STOP ME! BWHAHAHHAHAHAHAHA! Of course I will also drag along a few proper wench costumes as well just in case the captain jack routine gets ridiculous, or I acquiesce to wearing a corset, or I pull off Captain Jack TO WELL and girls start chasing after me {Beckers, this is why your coming down here to go with me right? To chase off any and all fangirls with a flintlock pistol.....RIGHT?LOL}. In any case it should be a perfectly wonderful experience, I am extremley excited! Aieeee!

Speaking of Pirates {thanks for the inspiration from your entry Beckers} I'd like to get into that a bit. Now sure, Piracy has been glamorized thanks to My very own Captain Jack ~Pets Jack~, Peter Pan-Captain Hook, Treasure Island and so on and so forth ad nauseam, so yes it has been adulterated a bit and glamorized and I think most of us realize that. So yes, alot of them were violent to the point of murder nevermind pillaging and plundering, and mostly they preferred to steal things they could use like the cannons from the shi[ps they captured, or her food stores, or her rigging because treasure really WASNT a common occurence when you get right down to it. So yes, they were violent, they didnt really run around burying secret hoards {or at least not as often as you'd think}, some of them were complete bastards, others were gentlemen, but when it comes down to reasoning...well it's all pretty much the same. They did it for the same reason.

Freedom.

Over and over, in almost any piracy text Iv'e read this word is repeated in this pirate or that pirates reasoning for why they did this or that. More than any other reason this is repeated. Freedom. Even when faced with sure death by hanging {Did you know that LEGALLY in the Bahamas, acts of pircay are STILL punishable by hanging?}, they gave freedom as their reasoning. They had lived as they chose and accepted that they may die for it, so in a way they also knew and chose the manner of their death. Noble is it not? Even a complete bastard can still manage to be noble...all because it's done in the name of freedom. Be it freedom from laws and governments, or un-fair rules, or just wanting to escape from boredom. All of those and a million other reasos, boredom of this, annoyance with that, wishing to get away from so and so, or wishing to see such and such...that's what it all boils down to.

Quite frankly, who in the HELL can blame them? Rarely were people FORCED to become Pirates except in varying cases where say they captured a ship that had a carpenter or a surgeon, these people were forced on occasion because of their specialized skills. In most cases no one was forced, they willingly chose this life as fraught with danger as it was, deaths at sea, deaths in battle, deaths by hanging, disease and so on. Why would someone CHOOSE this life? Defiantly marching out into the vast horizon of the wild siren sea? For the exact same pleasures that same horizon offers to them that others fear.

Freedom.

Freedom to navigate by the light of the stars. How can one argue with that reasoning and sheer poetry? Freedom to breateh deeply of the salty richness of the sea air. Freedom to get your sea-legs, and not bother so much with land-legs. Freedom to curse and drink, gamble and spit. Freedom o be opinionated and.....well...free! Also free to get shot, maimed, killed, hung or any other number of things, but don't you think they KNEW that?

Who in the hell can blame them? I'm not saying Piracy is right, nor were some of the acts commited right either, but I can certainly see where t was justifiable! Liek I said only a handful were forced, hell most Pirate Captains wouldn't even accept crew members if said crew member was married, most likley out of fear that said member would soon miss home and may propose a mutiny, or wouldnt willingly give his life for fear of a family being left behind. So most of them joined willingly.

I can't blame them. I dont even want to blame them, yes it's been glamorized, yes they commited urder and looted.....sure I know that. Trust me, I have self-educated myself on pirates for months now...I know quite a bit. However to live that life, breathe that air.....the freedom! Well, only a fool would blindly condemmn them all!

I have been on boats, I scuba dive....I know the freedom of the ocean......all to well. Sometimes, just as Middle Earth pulls to me, it pulls as well. I live so close to it I can hear it at night, roaring and pounding and singing. I can smell the salt in the air.

"Come to my embrace, I am a crule mistress...but at least you are free here". How right she is, how very right indeed. And right now, with the hell week it's been I want to be free, I want to be on a ship.......feelign the spray, living life as I see fit. I want my heart to lie in the dpeths of the ocean, because there it is untouchable!

And on that note three things, Captain Jack and I are getting married {this pertais to sisters only, if you aren't one, dotn ask, cause then I'll have to explain...and well....yeah} so I'll let you know when, probably next weekend.

Secondly to quote my husband to be and Beckers.

"Wherever we want to go, we go. That's what a ship is, you know. It's not just a keel and hull and a deck and sails. That's what a ship needs. But what a ship is... what the Black Pearl really is... is freedom."

And to wuote them ocne again

"Now...Bring me That Horizon"

A Elven Lady I may be

But Still

My Heart lies with the sea

Until Then...
